In a major move towards economic relief, the Indian government has introduced significant GST reforms, particularly benefiting the healthcare sector. As part of the changes, the tax on medicines has been reduced, ensuring that consumers will experience financial relief when the new rates take effect on September 22.

The sweeping reforms, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day, bring substantial cuts to GST rates across various sectors. These changes, which come into full effect before Diwali, slash GST on a wide range of medical supplies, including lifesaving drugs and medical devices.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has addressed public concerns about the impact of these changes on existing medicine stock. Recalling or relabeling pre-September 22 stock is not mandatory, provided price compliance is maintained at the retail level, ensuring consumers benefit from the adjustments.
