Russia initiated a regular air service between Moscow and Pyongyang on Sunday, a development reflecting the strengthening relationship between the two nations. This newly established air link aims to support tourism and foster closer ties.
The inaugural flight, operated by Russian airline Nordwind, departed from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, carrying over 400 passengers. According to Russia's Transport Ministry, the service will operate once a month to cater to passenger demand.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently visited North Korea's Wonsan-Kalma beach resort, advocating for Russian tourists to explore the location. This resort, central to Kim Jong Un's tourism enhancement strategy, is projected to boost North Korea's struggling economy. Meanwhile, Russia and North Korea have intensified military collaboration, with Pyongyang reportedly supplying weapons and troops in support of Russia's actions in Ukraine.
