A heated controversy erupted today during the planned release of 'The Bengal Files' trailer at the ITC Royal Bengal in Kolkata. Despite all preparations and necessary approvals, the hotel organizers halted the event, a move that filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri labeled as undemocratic.
Agnihotri spoke out against the disruption, pointing to an alleged crackdown on his event. He criticized the state's law and order, which he claims has failed, leading to support for his film. "Some individuals unexpectedly cut all the wires, leaving us in the dark regarding any instructions they received," he stated.
Facing challenges from major multiplex chains citing political pressures, Agnihotri recounted the difficulty in choosing a launch venue. The film, set to explore communal tensions in Bengal during the 1940s, will now release theatrically on September 5, 2025. Agnihotri insists, "Our voices will not be silenced."
