Relentless monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have escalated the death toll to 179, with infrastructure facing severe disruptions. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reported that weather-induced calamities like landslides and flash floods accounted for 101 deaths, while 78 were caused by road mishaps on unsafe roads.

The SDMA's latest report reveals widespread devastation from June 20 to August 2, affecting life and public utilities. With 403 roads blocked, power distribution disrupted at 411 points, and 196 water supply schemes failing, the public services remain severely affected.

Landslides have closed National Highway-505 in Lahaul and Spiti, exacerbating commuter distress. Districts such as Mandi, Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, and Una report multiple fatalities and significant infrastructure damage, including destroyed homes and bridges.

Authorities maintain a high alert, cautioning that further heavy rains could compromise restoration work for roads and electricity. The SDMA advises residents to heed local warnings and avoid unnecessary travel due to ongoing landslide and flood threats.

For real-time updates, residents can contact the State Emergency Operation Centre's helpline at 1070. Earlier, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla dispatched essential relief items to impacted districts, aiding over 1,200 families.
