In a significant political development, outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially tendered his resignation, which was accepted by the state's Governor, Thaawarchand Gehlot, on Friday. The resignation comes amidst discussions with Congress leaders about forging a new government following the high command's directive.
Accompanied by key Karnataka Ministers, Siddaramaiah met Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi, after earlier discussions with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath. These meetings focused on strategizing for the Rajya Sabha elections and addressing other key political issues.
The Congress party reassured its legislative dominance, winning 135 seats and enjoying the support of two independents. Despite the abrupt leadership change, Siddaramaiah emphasized adherence to constitutional procedures for appointing his successor, underscoring a smooth political transition in the state.
