The Jan Aushadi scheme has led to significant savings for Indian citizens, with Parliament informed that approximately Rs 38,000 crore has been saved over the past 11 years.
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Anupriya Patel, reported that 16,912 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been established nationwide as of June 2025. The initiative intends to curb household healthcare spending, which constituted a substantial portion of total health expenditure before this scheme was implemented.
The government aims to open 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras by March 2027, offering medicines priced 50-80% lower than branded alternatives, significantly impacting healthcare affordability and accessibility.
