A 16-year-old girl, who befriended a 21-year-old man on social media, faced severe trauma after being allegedly raped and later giving birth in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, police reported on Friday.
The police detained the accused on Thursday. He had previously coerced the teenager into using abortion pills after assaulting her in a rural hut last October, explained Suryakant Sharma, the additional superintendent of police.
The accused initially promised to marry the victim upon realizing the pregnancy couldn't be terminated but later withdrew his commitment. The girl's father discovered her pregnancy after she went into labor, leading to her hospital admission. Authorities filed a case under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and POCSO Act, revealed official sources.
