The sub-district magistrate of Dhampur tehsil, located in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district, has come under alarming threat. An extortion demand of Rs 15 lakh has been made against her, accompanied by a frightening death threat, police confirmed on Monday.
Circle Officer Abhai Kumar Pandey detailed that sub-divisional magistrate Ritu Rani reported receiving intimidating messages on July 24. The messages, sent to her official number from various sources, demanded a substantial payment and included a barcode to facilitate the transfer.
The sender ominously referenced the 2016 murder of NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed, warning of a similar fate for Ritu Rani if the payment was not made. Dhampur police confirmed that evidence, including message screenshots, is being analyzed as part of an ongoing investigation.
