The Andhra Pradesh government announced intentions to introduce a special law aimed at combating false propaganda on social media. State Home Minister V Anitha outlined the plan during a press conference on Tuesday, emphasizing the government's commitment to counter misinformation that breeds public insecurity.
Minister Anitha revealed the establishment of a fact-finding committee dedicated to presenting accurate information to the public. The move comes in response to allegations that certain groups are disseminating misinformation to undermine the government's welfare programs.
Highlighting alleged false claims regarding the submersion of Amaravati and infrastructural issues at Prakasam Barrage, Anitha accused detractors, including the YSRCP, of attempting to malign the government. She stressed the success of government initiatives like the 'Super Six' schemes and warned of strict repercussions for such misinformation campaigns.
