Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra on Tuesday accused the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, of attempting to divide the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community through a proposed caste census.
BJP leaders, including former Chief Ministers B S Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai, and Union Minister of State V Somanna, convened to strategize around the contentious survey. They argue the state government lacks legal backing for this socio-economic survey, questioning its true motives.
Vijayendra emphasized the need for community unity, especially under guidance from senior leaders who are engaging with the All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha. The aim is to keep the community intact amid concerns of division as the census is set for September 22 to October 7 at a budget of Rs 420 crore.
