In a shocking development, the Karnataka Medical Education Department has suspended three doctors for allegedly accepting bribes in return for issuing favorable inspection reports as members of the National Medical Commission's inspection team. The doctors were implicated in providing biased reports for a medical institution in Chhattisgarh.
According to officials, the department's Principal Secretary, Mohammad Mohsin, issued the suspension order after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR following an investigation into the bribery case. The accused doctors include Dr. Chaitra M S, Dr. Manjappa C N, and Dr. Ashok Shelke, all associated with prestigious medical colleges in Karnataka.
The CBI informed the department through an official email, prompting a detailed review of the case. Officials confirmed that the suspension was executed in alignment with service rules after the CBI took the accused into custody for further inquiry.
