Sharad Pawar Calls for Unity Amid Caste-Based Quota Debates

Mumbai: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has expressed concern over the Maharashtra government's approach to caste-based quota demands, fearing it could undermine social unity. The state's reliance on the Hyderabad Gazette for addressing issues related to Maratha and OBC communities has drawn criticism for potentially driving a wedge between different social groups.

Speaking to reporters in Pune, Pawar questioned the necessity of forming separate committees for Marathas and OBCs, arguing that such measures might only serve to deepen divides. He called for a unified approach to address social disparity, noting that working in isolation could hinder efforts to achieve harmony.

Pawar's remarks come amidst growing unrest among various caste groups in the state, following the government's acceptance of activist Manoj Jarange's demands, including the provision of Kunbi caste certificates to eligible Marathas. As tensions persist, Pawar urged leaders to focus on fostering mutual understanding and bridging community divides.
