International condemnation has erupted after Israeli forces intercepted a flotilla of around 40 boats carrying aid to Gaza. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was among those on board, along with numerous other foreign activists and parliamentarians.
The stoppage of boats, broadcast live by cameras verified by Reuters, showed passengers huddled in life vests as Israeli soldiers with helmets and night-vision goggles boarded. The flotilla was diverted to the Israeli port of Ashdod, where activists are expected to be deported.
The move has sparked global protests and backlash from leaders, including South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa, who condemned it as a violation of international law. Countries like Turkey and Colombia are taking steps in response to their nationals' detainment.
