Taiwan's Stand: Defying Pressure with U.S. Backing

The President of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te, extended gratitude to the United States for its commitment to Taiwan's defense capabilities. This gesture comes in light of the upcoming summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where Taiwan is expected to be a central topic.

Despite the lack of formal diplomatic ties, the U.S. remains Taiwan's primary international backer and arms supplier, much to China's discontent. In a message to the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, Lai praised the U.S. for its unwavering security support, noting Taiwan's pivotal role as a democratic beacon in Asia.

Lai reaffirmed Taiwan's stance as a sovereign nation, rejecting external pressures and advocating for Taiwan's right to international participation. Meanwhile, China's foreign ministry has dismissed dialogue offers from Lai, and Taiwan continues to face increasing military and diplomatic pressure from its neighbor.
