The newly sworn-in TVK government in Tamil Nadu achieved a critical triumph on Wednesday, securing a trust vote victory by a 144:22 margin. The principal opposition party, DMK, staged a walkout alongside the divided AIADMK, of which one faction rallied behind CM C Joseph Vijay's leadership.
With 118 needed for a simple majority in the 234-member assembly, Vijay's government gained essential backing from Congress, VCK, Left, AMMK, and a rebellious AIADMK faction. The BJP, with a single MLA, and NDA ally PMK abstained from voting, amid instability worries.
CM Vijay assured continuous welfare scheme implementation, condemning horse-trading while embracing developments such as liquor outlet closures near sensitive locations. With this support, the TVK government is set to settle into governance confidently.
