Authorities intercepted a truck on National Highway 66 in Mangaluru early Saturday morning, uncovering a case of illegal cattle transport. Four individuals were arrested for allegedly transporting buffaloes in a cruel manner without proper documentation.
The swift action by the police led to the rescue of 27 buffaloes that were being taken from Haveri district in Karnataka to Taliparamba in Kerala. The accused hail from Shivamogga, Haveri, and Hassan districts.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other relevant laws. The accused are set to face court proceedings, while the rescued animals have been sent to a local goshala for care.
