Twelve people have tragically lost their lives in the Pune area after reportedly consuming toxic liquor. Authorities have arrested eight individuals so far, with further arrests anticipated. A focal suspect in the bootlegging operation is among those detained, according to officials.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has described the situation as "very serious" and noted the likelihood of additional arrests. "We have identified the entire supply network," he stated. Deaths were reported from two locations: seven in Pimpri Chinchwad's Phugewadi and five in Pune's Hadapsar.

Ongoing investigations involve a collaboration between the police and the State Excise Department, focusing on the illegal distribution chain. The incident has thrown a shadow of mourning over the affected areas, with local leaders calling out governmental accountability.

NCP leader Rohit Pawar criticized the state government, alleging systemic failures in curbing illegal liquor activities. Meanwhile, State Excise Commissioner Atul Kanade affirmed the departmental probe, stressing a coordinated response to prevent further occurrences.
