In a direct challenge to the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi announced plans to redistribute land, allegedly acquired illegally by current officials, to the poor if elected. This promise comes as part of a broader strategy to implement land and economic reforms by the opposition party.
During an Extended Executive Meeting of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Gogoi criticized the current regime for policies that he claims target minorities and indigenous communities. He alleged that the government has displaced communities under the guise of development, violating court orders, and vowed to establish policies for inclusive growth.
With assembly elections on the horizon, the Congress is actively mobilizing against what they describe as the 'misrule' under Himanta Biswa Sarma. They are planning a series of campaigns to highlight BJP's corruption, while representatives from various Assam communities have pledged support in the fight against communal politics.
