Union Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has voiced strong criticism against the Congress government in Telangana over its reservation policy. Accusing the government of disguising Muslim reservations within a broader 42% quota for backward classes, Kumar claims this move primarily seeks to garner minority votes.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's protest in Delhi for Presidential approval of the BC quota bills has also come under fire, with Kumar alleging it to be a pretext for minority vote banking. According to him, the policy leaves only a 32% quota for BCs, contrary to Congress's earlier assurance of a full 42% allocation.
In a statement, Kumar highlighted the Modi government's 27% reservation for BCs and criticized Congress for lacking a history of empowering BC leaders. With two bills currently awaiting Presidential assent, the Union Minister has raised concerns about Telangana's reservation framework and its implications.
