Kim Aris, son of Myanmar's imprisoned pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, called on Chinese President Xi Jinping for intervention to liberate his mother. Aris has recently sought global leaders' help to push the Myanmar Junta for Suu Kyi's release amidst reported health issues.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post, Aris highlighted that China has advocated for Suu Kyi's freedom. Despite these calls, Chinese officials have not been permitted to visit her in custody, nor has any other outside entity.
Aris expressed concern over Suu Kyi's well-being in solitary confinement. Suu Kyi, a Nobel laureate, maintained relations with China during her time in power, and Aris believes her rapport with China was healthier than that of the Junta leadership post-coup.
