As the Election Commission (EC) moved Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) to strong rooms post the April 23 polls, political parties have launched round-the-clock monitoring efforts. This vigilance by ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK supplements the existing security provided by central armed police forces and Tamil Nadu special police teams.
With the vote count slated for May 4, these political parties have expressed a clear determination to safeguard the machines from any possible tampering or mishandling. As such, party cadres will maintain a vigil at designated centers where the EVMs are stored.
R M Babu Murugavel, Joint Secretary of the AIADMK's Legal Wing, highlighted the importance of these measures, emphasizing the need for electoral transparency and security.
