The Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) staged an indefinite blockade on NH-29 in Nagaland's Phek district, highlighting the delayed progress of the crucial highway connecting four districts to Kohima, the state's capital.
The protest halted vehicles of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and its contractors involved in the Kohima-Jessami Highway project, sparking concerns over deteriorating road conditions.
CSU president Pfhulo Sara said the blockade was a response to NHIDCL's failure to address the union's calls for immediate repairs, better drainage, and removal of landslide debris. With monsoon approaching, further delays could exacerbate commuter challenges.
