A catastrophic event unfolded in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district as landslides and flooding, induced by relentless heavy rains, flattened more than 30 houses across four villages on Thursday. The calamity resulted in one confirmed death, numerous injuries, and several individuals unaccounted for, triggering a large-scale emergency response.
Authorities reported that rescue operations are actively being conducted by multiple agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, and ITBP. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has urged for expedited relief efforts and the restoration of critical services such as roads, electricity, and water supply in the affected Nandanagar area.
The devastating landslides were compounded by preceding weather conditions, including heavy rain and cloudbursts in Dehradun, escalating the damages and further complicating relief efforts. As the situation evolves, the immediate focus remains on the search for missing persons and alleviating the crisis faced by more than 200 impacted residents.
