In Latur, Maharashtra, the bodies of five individuals tragically swept away by heavy rains have been recovered after exhaustive search efforts lasting nearly 40 hours, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

Tuesday began with the drowning of 27-year-old Sudershan Kerba Ghonshetty in the Tirru river. Later that day, an autorickshaw carrying five passengers was overtaken by a potent current on a bridge in Jalkot taluka. While three were rescued, rescue operations continued for the remaining individuals.

Eventually, the bodies of Ghonshetty, autorickshaw driver Sangram Sonkamble, passenger Vitthal Gavle, Vaibhav Pundalik Gaikwad, and Sangeeta Murhari Suryavwanshi were located. The relentless rainfall has caused extensive damage in the region, with preliminary losses estimated at Rs 480 crore, an official stated.
