In a tragic turn of events, four individuals, including a mother and her young son, succumbed to the relentless floodwaters in two separate incidents within Rayachoti town of Annamayya district. Heavy rains led to these unfortunate casualties, as reported by the local police on Saturday.
The first incident struck at SM Colony where Sheik Munni, aged 28, and her minor son were swept away after the stone slab covering the drainage gave way beneath her feet. Her brave neighbor, Ganesh, 25, attempted a rescue but was also caught in the fierce current, resulting in the deaths of all three.
Simultaneously, a separate incident occurred at the 'four taps' area where an eight-year-old girl drowned after stepping out of an autorickshaw into the flooded street. Although the driver managed to secure the other children, the girl ventured out alone, tragically leading to her demise. Recoveries and investigations are ongoing as police register cases related to these fatalities.
