BCCI Considers Transforming U23 National Tournament to T20 Format

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating a significant format change for the national Under-23 men's cricket tournament. The switch from a 50-over format to a T20 format could take effect as early as the 2026-27 domestic season.

According to a source close to the development, the BCCI plans to seek input from state cricket associations and other stakeholders to ensure the transition benefits the domestic circuit. The tournament, now known as the State A Championship, has historically been divided into Elite and Plate Divisions.

In recent seasons, Tamil Nadu has secured the title in the Elite Division, with Meghalaya claiming victory in the Plate segment. The potential change aims to align better with modern cricket trends, as the BCCI continues to evolve its domestic programs.
