Italy's National Strike: Solidarity for Gaza or Strategic Protest?
Hundreds of thousands of Italians participated in a national strike supporting an aid flotilla intercepted by Israel. The strike, organized by the CGIL and USB unions, caused disruptions across the country, as protesters demonstrated against perceived injustices. Italy's government criticized the strike as a cover for a longer weekend.

Italy witnessed significant civil action on Friday, as hundreds of thousands of citizens joined a nationwide strike organized by major unions in support of a humanitarian flotilla intercepted by Israel en route to Gaza.
Mass protests erupted across more than 100 cities, with the largest turnout in Rome, where demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and banners advocating for international solidarity. While the event aimed to highlight humanitarian issues, the strike also led to significant travel disruptions, particularly in the rail sector.
Italy's government voiced stark disapproval, labeling the strike an unnecessary disruption, while accusations of using the protest for an extended weekend were also leveled by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Despite criticisms, pro-Palestinian sentiments have deep roots in Italy, intensifying the national discourse on international policies.
