The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati ordered 14 days' police custody for Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, co-musicians of late singer Zubeen Garg, marking significant developments in the investigation surrounding his death. The Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested the duo on Thursday as part of the ongoing inquiries that have resulted in four total arrests.
Chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta informed ANI that the arrests followed exhaustive interrogations conducted by the SIT/CID. Earlier in the week, the police detained Shyamkanu Mahanta, the primary organizer of the North East India Festival in Singapore, along with Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg's manager, with the CJM of Kamrup (Metro) district subsequently granting their 14-day police detention.
The investigation took a graver turn as the CID added a murder charge within the case context. Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force complied with Indian authorities by forwarding Zubeen Garg's autopsy report to the High Commission of India. The public has been instructed to avoid disseminating videos or images connected to the incident as inquiries continue.
In a statement, Garima Saikia Garg, the deceased singer's wife, expressed her confidence in the judicial process. She urged patience with the unfolding investigation, emphasizing her belief that the truth will emerge and justice will be served to those accountable for her husband's untimely death. Zubeen Garg, a celebrated Assamese music figure, tragically lost his life on September 19 following a drowning incident in Singapore, with his remains being transported to Delhi and later Guwahati.
