Honesty Triumphs: Panchayat Candidate Seeks Truth in Election Results
A panchayat poll candidate, Kajal Bisht, demonstrated honesty by urging election authorities to declare her rival as the winner after discovering he received more votes. Despite being awarded the victory certificate, she contested the results, prompting a recount ordered by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

In a surprising turn of events, a candidate in the Tarkuli gram panchayat election stood up for electoral integrity. Kajal Bisht, initially declared the winner, discovered a counting error and urged authorities to recognize her opponent, Sumit Kumar, as the rightful winner, acknowledging his three-vote lead.
The election, held in Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's Champawat assembly constituency, was marred by this calculation mistake. Despite receiving the certificate of victory, Bisht's commitment to fairness led her to report the discrepancy to the election officer.
After her concerns were dismissed, Bisht took the matter to the court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anurag Arya, who has since instructed a recount to resolve the issue. The recount is expected to occur within the next 30 days, according to officials.
