The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a new plea from telecom giant Vodafone Idea Ltd concerning additional Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) demands, totaling Rs 5,606 crore, from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for the 2016-17 financial year.
A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai, along with Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria, will consider the plea on September 26. The company contends that the dues were previously established in the 2019 AGR judgment and should not be reopened.
As discussions progress, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the government, emphasized the need for a resolution, noting the government's significant equity in Vodafone Idea. The proceedings are set against the backdrop of past Supreme Court decisions that have consistently upheld the finality of DoT's AGR demands.
