The Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a widespread counterfeit smoking paper syndicate operating in the Okhla Industrial Area. In a decisive raid, authorities seized fake packaging materials valued at more than Rs one crore.
The crackdown was instigated by a complaint from a private company, which reported that fraudulent cartons and labels mimicking their smoking paper line were being manufactured and sold in the Delhi-NCR market. The duplicitous products were not only misleading consumers but also inflicting financial damage to the company.
Acting on intelligence, officers raided the illegal packaging unit in Okhla, apprehending key suspect Tausam Ansari. Two other suspects, Sagir Ahmed and Shahnawaz Ahmed, were also detained. However, the alleged mastermind, Mohammad Jiyarat, remains on the run. The haul included 18 boxes of inner cone cigarette packaging and sophisticated printing machinery, highlighting the operation's scale. Investigations continue as police hunt for Jiyarat.
