Tragedy at Khandwa Lake: Devotees Drown During Durga Idol Immersion
A tragic incident occurred in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, when 11 devotees drowned during a Durga idol immersion. The state and central government have promised financial aid to affected families. A sorrowful incident unfolded in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh as 11 devotees tragically drowned during a Durga idol immersion. The accident happened on Vijayadashami when a tractor-trolley carrying the idol fell into a lake in the Pandhana area.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited Pandalphata village to console the bereaved families, offering assistance and promising Rs 4 lakh compensation for each family. Additionally, he directed officials to construct a proper ghat to prevent such future accidents.
An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured was also announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the administration praises rescue efforts by local youths.
