On Thursday, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the home of Trinamool Congress MLA Nayana Bandyopadhyay to explore allegations regarding a signature inconsistency in the West Bengal Assembly attendance register. The inquiry arose after doubts emerged about the authenticity of a signature supporting Sovandeb Chattopadhayay as Leader of Opposition.
The Assembly's Principal Secretary had filed a complaint at Hare Street police station, resulting in the case's transfer to CID. A CID team, comprised of handwriting experts and police officers, arrived at Bandyopadhyay's home to conduct their review while she was away at an Eid event. Upon her return, the verification process, including a PAN card examination, was completed.
Bandyopadhyay stated she signed a party document during a meeting at Mamata Banerjee's home, creating a possible mismatch with previous signatures. She expressed surprise at this development, while BJP's Santosh Pathak highlighted multiple allegations against Bandyopadhyay and her spouse, including possible signature irregularities.
