Israel Unveils 'Iron Beam': A Game-Changer in Missile Defense
Israel has successfully tested 'Iron Beam', a low-cost laser-based system designed to destroy incoming missiles. Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with Elbit Systems, it complements existing defense measures like Iron Dome and will be integrated into military air defenses by year's end.

The Israeli Defence Ministry announced the successful testing of 'Iron Beam,' a cost-effective, high-power laser-based system designed to destroy incoming missiles. The system, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems, is set for integration into the military's air defense by the end of the year.
'Iron Beam' aims to complement existing missile defense systems such as Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Arrow, which are crucial for intercepting threats from groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. The system uses lasers, offering a much lower-cost alternative to traditional rocket interceptors, which can cost upwards of $50,000 per unit.
Defence Ministry Director-General Amir Baram highlighted the system's operational success in intercepting a variety of aerial threats. Rafael Chairman Yuval Steinitz and Elbit CEO Bezhalel Machlis both emphasized the transformative potential of 'Iron Beam' in modern warfare, noting future developments such as airborne laser applications.
