Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan unveiled a significant Rs 1000 crore development initiative for Sabarimala during the Global Ayyappa Sangam on Saturday. The comprehensive plan aims to enhance safety and convenience for devotees visiting the Lord Ayyappa shrine.

The project, which will see Rs 1033.62 crore allocated to Sannidhanam, Pamba, and the trek path to the hill-shrine, is expected to conclude by 2039. Additionally, between 2025 and 2030, over Rs 300 crore will be allocated to improve basic amenities for pilgrims, amidst opposition from local political parties including Congress and BJP.

Opponents attempted legal interventions, but their efforts were halted by the Supreme Court, according to Vijayan. Meanwhile, Travancore Devaswom Board President P S Prasanth noted that the conclave, marking the Board's 75th anniversary, welcomed international and regional delegates, with Tamil Nadu notably sending around 1,000 attendees.
